Since September of 2004, ASK has organized Monthly Forums on adoption-related issues. Past Forums have included guests speaking on Korean foster care, sex education, teenage pregnancy, global trends in intercountry adoption, and media portrayals of adoptees. In addition to learning more about the many issues related to intercountry/transracial adoption, we are committed to fostering relationships with individuals and organizations that are at the forefront of instigating social change in Korean society.

WORKSHOP
This writing workshop aims to provide a safe and relaxed space to self-reflect, share with others, and add to the "toolbox" of resources within the adoptee community. Writing prompts will be given to facilitate the writing process and discussions held afterward. Perhaps you are a seasoned writer or never write at all, this is a great opportunity to put your thoughts to paper in a space full of supportive, fellow adoptees.

Inspired by author Natalie Goldberg and her book titled Writing Down the Bones: Freeing the Writer Within, we will take Goldberg's advice and ask you to "write down the bones" for several of the writing prompts. From the book:

"These are the rules. It is important to adhere to them because the aim is to burn through to first thoughts, to the place where energy is unobstructed by social politeness or the internal censor, to the place where you are writing what your mind actually sees and feels, not what it thinks it should see or feel." (Goldberg, 9)

Participants are encouraged to share their writing or thoughts with others, but this is not mandatory.

Questions regarding the workshop? Molly Cho can be reached at cho. [email protected] or 010-8050-1215.

Hope to see you there!
