~ ASK February Events ~ Valentine's Day Action + ASK Monthly Forum Thursday and Sunday February 14 and February 17 *************************************************
There will not be a Big Group Discussion (BGD) at Aeranwon this month because most of the mothers have decided to keep their children to raise. This seems to be the current trend- at least at Aeranwon. There have not been Big Group Discussions for the last few months due to the same reason. We find out on the last day of the month if there will be a discussion the next month. We will keep you posted about future discussions. If any Korean adoptees are interested in speaking with single mothers who are in the decision making process of what to do about the future of their child, please contact Su-Yoon at [email protected]

AERANWON In the fall of 2006, ASK began working with Aeranwon, a home for single, expectant mothers who are contemplating the future of their children. BIG GROUP DISCUSSIONS Adoptee Solidarity Korea (ASK) coordinates monthly discussions between adoptees and unwed mothers. There are two types of discussions, Big Group Discussions and Small Group Discussions. The main purpose of the Big Group Discussions is to facilitate dialog between adoptees and birthmothers in a safe environment. Adoptees are encouraged to share their stories about growing up in their respective countries. Birthmothers ask many questions about adoptees’ experiences, and the adoptees are also encouraged to ask the birthmothers questions. Two or three adoptees speak per discussion. Most of the birthmothers are in the decision-making stage about whether they are going to keep their baby, or give them up for adoption, domestic or international. The Big Group Discussions are mandatory for all birthmothers staying at Aeranwon. The BGD are held on Mondays 3-5pm or Fridays 10-Noon. The dates depend on the number of birthmothers staying at Aeranwon. If you have a specific topic you would like to discuss, you can lead a Small Group Discussion. These are not required meetings for the birthmothers, but those who are interested are free to sign up.
